Hi Mor, thanks for your reply! I very much look forward to your longer paper. As I say in my post, I believe the term “awareness” is not unexpected, and in fact is limited in its appreciation of what is possible, and what is being realised on Twitter. I’d be interested in your team’s analysis of the identity work performed through both the expectation and status postings – simply stating they exist leaves me without any news value I’m afraid.

I am not sure why all the (interesting) points you made preclude the use of the term “awareness”. In a longer paper (in submission) we discuss the phatic communion aspects of SAS in length, and explain that awareness is at times an expectation (that others see my posts) and at times a status (I am exposed to others’ activities).
