thank you for this real story... Im versed in the bradley method of natural childbirth, and I was searching frantically for someone who thought the same thing as me... it was a direct result of the epidural. He more than likely inserted the needle too far, giving her a much stronger dose directly into the spinal column. The only miracle here is if this woman doesnt sue for malpractice...

Great post. My thoughts, EXACTLY. I couldn't help but be skeptical when I initially read this story (I just ranted about it on my blog yesterday!). While it is wonderful that no one actually died, I can't help but wonder what the world is thinking...can't anyone put 2 & 2 together to see that had she not had the interventions in the first place, she wouldn't have died and come back to life?

But you are right: women are taught to believe that the allmighty epidural is a headache pill cure (or however you said it, brilliant!) with zero side effects. Death than being alive is clearly one such side affect (or is it effect...I am so bad at those 2 words!). And if women keep believing that giving birth is the equivalent of buying a goldfish, what's going to change? Who's going to sign up for au natural homebirth (besides me!)???

Ahhhh!!!!!! Insanity......
