Nutrisystem Week 3: I’m picking up potatoes.

Starting out with Nutrisystem is fantastic. You’re all about the shiny packages, the different foods, the new ways of eating. It’s a challenge to drink all that water. If you’re competitive like me, you focus on ticking the boxes on your guide and with trying to get everything in place.

But three weeks in, that shiny new toy feeling gets a little worn down. I’m all “I want to have lost 4,000 pounds by now!” and I want to eat things I don’t even need, and possibly don’t even really feel like, but I want them because I know I shouldn’t have them.

Yes, my head is screwing around with me., if I take a moment to really think through things, I can’t help but be happy. I can fit into the clothes I was busting out of. Yep, it’s taken three weeks for me to be able to put my jeans on and not have to hold my breath when I tie my shoes. They’re still not baggy or anything, but I’ll take it. And who knows, in three more weeks it will be even better. How cool is that?

I’ve lost six pounds in three weeks. It doesn’t sound like a lot, so I went to the supermarket and picked up six pounds of potatoes. Suddenly that six pounds was noteworthy. Remember when Oprah walked on stage after losing a stack of weight, dragging a red wagon with a whole heap of stuff in it that was supposed to represent the weight she’d lost? (And then put back on again later… fistbump Oprah for having something in common with the rest of us!) It really feels a bit like that. I’ve decided every week to go to the supermarket and pick up potatoes equal to the weight I’ve lost.

We’ve had some cold days here in Colorado, and the hot foods have been very comforting. My favorite so far is the fettucini alfredo for lunch. I also like the new protein shakes – a flavor-filled addition to my morning. They’re not a food replacement but rather a boost to keep you full for a couple of hours. I am even having trouble deciding between which flavour to have in the mornings – coffee, strawberry, chocolate and vanilla. They’re all great! The only thing I’m not a fan of is the mushroom risotto. There is far too much salt in it, and there’s just no way a packaged risotto is attractive to look at. I won’t be ordering that one again.

NutrisystemandmediamumLogoI have managed to drink the water, and am currently drinking 64oz a day about 50% of the time. Yep, this is my personal challenge to step that up a bit. The great thing about drinking the water is that you see the difference in your skin – your face glows a bit more, your nails grow, and even better, it fills you up!

I look forward to sharing more next week! Six pounds is better than five, and way better than I was three weeks ago. Let’s see if I can increase my water intake this week, and get closer to that first 10 pounds mark.

  • I love the idea of picking up six pounds of potatoes. That is a great way to celebrate the accomplishment with a concrete visual. I have such a hard time being happy with just a pound or two when I want to lose ten in one week. This is a good way to remind myself that a pound or two is not insignificant!
